About

The family name of Glendinning is synonymous with Prudhoe, it being probably the oldest business in the town.

The firm started in the 1920s by Mr. George Glendinning who was joined later by his brother Albert. Together the brothers worked in various furniture removal, general haulage and taxis. business simultaneously with a nationwide haulage operation. In 1960 Alan Glendinning, son of Albert, joined the firm and it was during those early years while recovering and rescuing the firm vehicles from all over the country that the first seeds of building a recovery business formed in his mind.

The first vehicle Alan built was an eight wheel Leyland with 30ton lift, and various smaller trucks and Land Rovers were added to the collection over the formative years. Following the death of George in 1965, and Albert in 1984, Alan Glendinning reshaped the main part of the business to concentrate on garage and forecourt services while developing the recovery business to cater for all types of light and commercial vehicles anywhere in the UK. In 1988 his wife Eleanor, and his son Michael, joined the firm. Michael, like his father has a strong interest in the motor industry and is the mainstay of the recovery operation. He has designed and built several vehicles to his own specification. With the fleet now at 30 vehicles with a wide range of ability, we are more than capable of tackling any job they are called upon. The firm is supported by a motor factors division, and this, and the forecourt services are open seven days per week while the recovery business operates 24 hours per day for every day of the year.
